Luis Jimenez's Art and Life
Known for his controversial art which communicates the myths and legends of the Wild West, Luis Jimenez (1940-2006) brought his art to life with bright splashes of color. Jimenez was the first member of his family to be born in the U.S. and apprenticed with his father, a neon light artist in El Paso, Texas. He studied art and architecture at the University of Texas in Austin and El Paso, earning a bachelor's degree in 1964. He became an accomplished artist and taught art at the University of Arizona and later at the University of Houston. Jimenez was commissioned in 1992 by the Denver International Airport to create a sculpture for its newly renovated premises.
